Introduction: RSDC with support from DFID and Learning for life implemented income generation project. The project was implemented from the year 2015-2018 in selected project area of Nuwakot district. This was the new initiatives to improve the agriculture practices through training and technical guidance in adopting new agriculture technology (drip irrigation).

Approach/Methodology:  The Swabalamban approach of mobilizing the community members into income generation groups related to agriculture. 1,658 poor households from the project area were identified and mobilized into agriculture groups.

Aim: The project intends to enhance the livelihood of the target community by increasing agricultural productivity, supporting micro-enterprise development and improving access to local markets.

Achievements:

  • The groups formed were linked to the agriculture knowledge center of the district that has been receiving various services and support from the local government;
  • Community Seed Production groups (CSPG) and Community Seed Banks (CSB) concept introduced and adopted;
  • Improved agriculture techniques adopted with new irrigation technology (drip irrigation and plastic pond) introduced  to increase agriculture production related to vegetable cultivation;
  • The groups were linked with district level business associations to market their agriculture product in the local market.
