Introduction: PASD was implemented in Kapilbastu district with support from Royal Danish Embassy. The project duration was from the year 2000 -2003.
Approach and Methodology: The project followed the Swabalamban approach where the local communities were mobilized through mobilization process and formed into self help groups. The mobilization process was undertaken by the local social mobilizers who are now acting as local resource person for various government and other development projects/program.
Aim:
The project aimed to organize the poor community members into groups so as to enhance their self-help capacity, raise income level, and improve the quality of life of the community as well as improve their physical infrastructure facilities.
PASD Achievements:
- 92 IGGs covering 2274 households are federated into 61 cooperative institutions that are functional in the project district;
- Improved infrastructure has enhanced the community mobility and services. Drinking water schemes (838), irrigation schemes (16), culvert/bridges (83) constructed during the project phase are still providing facilities to the community members through repairing and upgrading with local resources;
- Communities members have easy access to finance through cooperatives are practicing various small scale enterprises that have enhanced their business skill and knowledge.
