Introduction: SPA was undertaken in 14 VDCs of Marchwar area of Rupendhehi district. The project was funded by United Nation Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The project was implemented from the year 1998-2002.

Approach and Methodology: The project followed the Swabalamban approach where the local communities were mobilized through mobilization process and formed into income generation groups (IGGs). The group members on their own initiatives undertook various activities which supported them to improve their living condition and well being. Some of the major activities included internal saving to be used by the group members as per their needs and requirements. This included investing in health care, income generation, household consumption, religious activities etc.

Aim: Enhance capacity of target beneficiaries to lead dignified and self sustainable life through its own development efforts.

SPA Achievements:

  • 3326 households formed into self help IGG groups that has created bond between the community members;
  • Members from the community are practicing various skill and technological knowhow in improving their agriculture and livestock practices. This has enhanced income of the community members;
  • Groups members were oriented on gender issues due to which gender is given priority in the community that has encourage women to participate in various ongoing program and platform;
  • 40 drinking water scheme and irrigation facilities were constructed during the project period increased knowledge of the community in sustaining the activities. This has help the community for taking care of their water resources.
