The Rural Self-Reliance Development Centre (RSDC) recently conducted a one-day orientation workshop at the municipal level for the project “Strengthening resiliance in WASH and livilihoods of vulnerable communities ( especially women) in khaptad chhanna Rural Municipality, Bajhang District, Nepal " in Khaptadchhanna Rural Municipality, Bajhang District, Sudurpashchim Province.
The workshop, organized by RSDC at the municipal hall, was attended by 51 participants, including local representatives, the Deputy Mayor, Chief Administrative Officer, Ward Chairpersons, Executive Committee members, heads and representatives of local government service agencies, representatives of non-governmental organizations operating in the municipality, and RSDC staff.
The program was held under the chief patronship of Deputy Mayor Mr. Bishnu Kumar Thapa and chaired by RSDC Executive Chief Mr. Shiva Bashyal. Project Coordinator Mr. Dhirendra R.C. provided detailed information about the project objectives, activities, and expected outcomes, while Field Supervisor Mr. Kumbharaj Joshi facilitated the program.
Executive Chief Mr. Bashyal highlighted that the project is supported financially by the Government of Germany and Malteser International, Germany. He explained that a project office has been established in Khaptadchhanna Rural Municipality to coordinate activities with the local government. The project aims to strengthen community and local government capacity in WASH and income-generation sectors, and RSDC will implement activities in collaboration with cooperative organizations using a participatory self-reliance approach.
Deputy Mayor and Chief Patron Mr. Bishnu Kumar Thapa extended best wishes for the success of the program on behalf of the municipality. He noted, “Although many organizations have worked in this municipality in the past, their efforts lacked sustainability. RSDC’s work through cooperative organizations has been dynamic and well-received by the community. The municipality will provide full support to ensure the success of upcoming programs.”
Heads of local government service agencies and ward representatives also expressed their commitment to coordinate with RSDC and contribute to achieving the project’s objectives. The project is scheduled to run in the municipality for a period of three years.
