The 35th Establishment Day of Rural Self-reliance Development Centre (RSDC) and 13th Day Memorial Observance of the organization’s Founder and Pioneer of the Swawalamban approach, and a distinguished figure in Nepal’s intellectual landscape, Late Dr. Devendra Raj Panday, were commemorated in a Memorial Service on 13th of Shrawan, 2083 BS (29th of July, 2026 AD). The Memorial Service was attended by a large number of participants including his family members, brother, daughter, grandson, colleagues who worked with him at IDS in 2038 BS, as well as office bearers and members of RSDC, current and former project staffs, local neighbours, heads and representatives of various organizations, and prominent members of civil society. Held at the office premises of RSDC, the Memorial Service commenced with a one-minute silence, followed by the offering of garlands and flowers at his photograph as a mark of tribute.
During the Memorial Service, the literary works of Late Dr. Devendra Raj Panday were showcased along with the screening of a video highlighting the Honour and Tribute conferred to him by RSDC two years ago. Along with, three of his recent literary works, written about 1 month before his passing, entitled ‘Raiti Banna Mann Laagchha’, ‘Mrityu’ and ’Yaatra ko Tayyari’ were recited. Likewise, an article on Swawalamban approach written by him in 2080 BS, was also read out in the event.
Many participants shared their experiences and cherished memories with him, and the unique qualities he possessed. During the Memorial Service, chaired by Ms. Kanta Singh Manandhar, Member Secretary of RSDC, the organization Chairman Mr. Rajendra Dahal shared his reflections on the multifaceted contributions of Late Dr. Devendra Raj Panday. Chairperson Mr. Dahal informed the gathering that, henceforth, the Establishment Day of RSDC would be observed as ‘Dr. Panday Memorial Day’, with the motive of highlighting the valuable contributions made by Dr. Panday towards the nation, and his pivotal role in RSDC, so that future generations would have the opportunity to learn about and appreciate his legacy.
As a mark of Tribute and Respect to Late Dr. Devendra Raj Panday, RSDC has featured his photograph on the front cover of its Annual Report 2026, and observed its 35th Establishment Day as a Day of Mourning in his Honour.
The demise of Dr. Devendra Raj Panday has inflicted an irreparable loss on the entire nation. The Rural Self-reliance Development Centre has lost its Guide and Mentor. On behalf of everyone, we extend our Heartfelt Tribute to the Late Dr. Devendra Raj Panday.
